Inventory System Enhancement Request: Linked Inventory Items

I would like to request consideration for adding a "Linked Inventory Items" function to the eTrition inventory system.

Objective

The purpose of this enhancement is to allow the system to automatically substitute a linked inventory item when the primary item is out of stock, while also converting quantities based on the case pack size.

Example

The following two items are interchangeable:

• Item #1316 – Egg Patty (Commercial)

  • Case Pack: 120 each per case

• Item #1597 – Egg Patty (USDA)

  • Case Pack: 320 each per case

Requested Functionality

If both items are available in inventory and orders are currently using Item #1597 – Egg Patty (USDA), the system should monitor available inventory. Once Item #1597 is depleted, the system should:

1. Automatically recognize that Item #1597 is out of stock.

2. Replace all remaining orders containing Item #1597 with the linked substitute, Item #1316 – Egg Patty (Commercial).

3. Automatically calculate and convert the ordered quantity based on the different case pack sizes.

Quantity Conversion Example

• Original Order:

  • 1 case of Item #1597 – Egg Patty (USDA)

  • Case Pack: 320 each

• Automatic Replacement:

  • 3 cases of Item #1316 – Egg Patty (Commercial)

  • Case Pack: 120 each per case (360 total each), ensuring the order is fulfilled with the closest practical equivalent.

Reverse Functionality

The same functionality should work in reverse. If Item #1316 (Commercial) is out of stock and Item #1597 (USDA) is available, the system should automatically substitute the USDA item and perform the appropriate quantity conversion based on the case pack sizes.
